Headlines - March 6, 2011 - Offseason Wrapup

Former Cowboy Reid is learning the arena game: "Bobby Reid has never played arena football, but he found some good teachers to prepare him for the Tulsa Talons training camp. The former Oklahoma State quarterback spent a couple of months throwing to former Talons receivers Jeff Hughley and Donovan Morgan."

Tulsa World looks at competition in the Talons camp: "Boyd, a former University of Tulsa lineman, will be among 34 men vying for 24 active and reserve roster spots. The Talons are giving him a second chance. Boyd went to camp two years ago, but illness and other factors sabotaged his trial."

Arena Pigskin has the Talons finishing last in the Central: "Tulsa may have some really good/great players on defense, but who’s even playing on the offense. The Talons lost one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos when Justin Allgood and Donovan Morgan left for the Philadelphia Soul. Right now, there is no clear cut replacements for either of those two. And we all know that the AFL is all about the offense." Respectfully I disagree.

The Talons held a scrimmage against the Dallas Vigilantes Wednesday. All reports show that the Talons were very physical on Defense and the Talons Offense performed well. Seems we may surprise some people this year.

A look at new Talons DB Jihad Morris: "I really love the arena game," Morris said. "I'm quick, I really think I can get from wall-to-wall pretty fast. I know I can make plays. I want to get out some more film and get some looks from more teams."

Roadtrippin' will be a twice a week segment this February where I will look at upcoming road games for the Talons and recommendations for things to visit along your way there!

This is a long trip, and for the record I will not be attending due to that fact. Most likely will require two to three stops for gas along the way. However, there are some great stops along the way:

Little Rock, AR

The Flying Saucer is a classic bar/gastropub institution on the main river-walk in Little Rock, Arkansas. As soon as you enter you notice the leather chairs and couches, the old world plates on the ceiling, and plenty of beer on the tables in front of comfortable drinkers. It is the perfect place to grab a quick drink and snack after a long day of driving.

Definitely the gem of this road trip. Whether you’re into the vintage beats of blues and soul or a more contemporary mix of tunes, Beale Street definitely has the music scene covered with everything from blues clubs and live music venues to street festivals such as the Blues First Weekend, the Cajun-themed Zydeco Festival and of course the Beale Street Music Festival.

Other than a great night scene, Beale Street also offers a great selection of foods. Find “pork with an attitude,” along with great blues music at The Pig restaurant. The Rum Boogie Café, Silky O Sullivan’s and Alfred’s On Beale are favorites of the locals. Famous chain restaurants such as the Hard Rock Café, Pat Obrien’s and Coyote Ugly are also sprinkled along Beale.

This would be the stop I would most be looking forward to. I have heard about Chicken & Waffles for so long that my taste buds crave the other when I have either. Don't forget to try the Sweet Potato Cheesecake!

Well that covers it for the Georgia trip. Up next? A trip everyone in Oklahoma is use to: Dallas, TX.

Talons Tryouts - November 28th, 2010 (Tulsa)

Hello Talons faithful. This morning the Talons held open tryout at Soccer City. This post will be mostly a media post with videos from the tryouts and pictures. I do have to say it was good to see Steve Watson and Antwon Floyd out on the field helping out the coaching staff. As most are aware by now, Floyd has decided to sit out this season to recover from an injury he sustained at the end of the season. Also watching the tryouts was former Talons star wide receiver Donovan Morgan. Morgan signed with the Philadelphia Soul for next season but still stopped by to support the Talons.

I will say there was some talent at the tryouts. There were some that during speed drills made me verbally go "wow". I'm unsure whether any of the guys will make the roster, but there should be a few that make it to training camp.

Talons sign former Cowboy QB

In other news, Talons are having tryouts on the 28th and I am planning to attend. I will try to have pictures, video, and writeup that day. Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks, work has been hectic but I haven't forgot about you Talons faithful!

Talons finally sign a QB, but who is he?

Today the Talons signed QB Rico Watkins, the 2009 MVP player for the Oklahoma Thunder football team.
